We are overjoyed to have won this year’s Training Team of the Year accolade at the Rail Staff Awards! See below for our entry submission…
NTRS’s National Training Academy is unusual in its widespread offering of signalling, telecoms and power knowledge and experience. This ensures that trainees can recognise and properly operate all related systems nation-wide and enables us to produce multi-skilled individuals with an all-encompassing knowledge of the rail trade. This ultimately leads to significant cost and time saving efficiencies for our customers.
As well as providing a number of courses designed to upskill both client and in-house resources, we also deliver apprenticeships and work experience for the young members of Chaucer School – our local partner school – and provide Ministry of Defence (MOD) resettlement programmes for HM forces leavers. This ensures the calibre of our workforce is well monitored and maintained.
Following the close of Kellingley Colliery – The last deep coal mine in England – and the mass TATA steel redundancies, the end of 2015 also saw us expand our training and resettlement programmes to incorporate parallel, obsolete industry workers to utilise their transferrable skills and further combat mass redundancies. This has involved us providing 14 individuals with a 6 week telecoms course, Personal Track Safety (PTS) sponsorship, 2 weeks’ work experience and a guaranteed interview for employment at the end of the 8 weeks.
Ex-miner Sheldon Griffin stated that “being made redundant after a 38-year career was one of the most difficult challenges I have ever had to face. Being offered first class training and employment by Linbrooke was an amazing opportunity that truly changed my life.”
Effectively utilising our multi-disciplinary training facility, we have trained circa 1850 individuals over the last 11 years and have seen a subsequent 90% of graduates through into employment within the rail industry.
Since the beginning of 2007, NTRS has been responsible for the training of approximately 390 ex-military personnel and Linbrooke/NTRS have since taken circa 260 into our employment. However, for those we have not hired, we have assisted to find employment within the rail industry.
‘Joining Linbrooke has quashed my negative feelings about leaving the Armed Forces; it provides a diverse and challenging environment and it is reassuring to know that I am in an organisation with a lot of like-minded people.’ – Ian Ronald, Assistant Delivery Engineer and former Royal Marine
Committed to quality in all that we do, we are focused on more than simply delivering government accredited qualifications – we are dedicated to seeing as many candidates as possible transition smoothly and efficiently into working life or alternatively build upon the industrial skills they already possess.
